SPSS 17 Upgrade
Starting at 5pm today (December 31), SRL staff are deploying SPSS 17 to on-campus desktops.
The installation will take place the next time a computer reboots. Because the upgrade requires uninstalling old versions and installing the new, startup times for PCs will be significantly longer during the upgrade. While the uninstallations and installations are running, you will see the message "Running Startup Scripts." The SIL now has SPSS 17 installed, with no reboot required.
Changes with SPSS 17:
http://www.spss.com/statistics/changes.htm outlines new features in SPSS 17. Note that, unlike the past few versions, SPSS 17 is backwards-compatible to SPSS 16. This should make our transition much less painful!
Your SPSS shortcut:
SPSS cleverly changed the program name from "spss.exe" to "statistics.exe". This would normally break shortcuts you created (on your desktop, for example) to prior versions, but the SRL created a workaround to keep these functional. If you encounter any problems at all when launching SPSS, please don't hesitate to contact us.
Off-Campus Use:
To use SPSS on your laptop or off-campus desktop, please download SPSS 17 from http://osusls.osu.edu/upgrades/stg2wnx.html#anchorspss13 or obtain an installation CD prepared by the SRL. Fill out a copy of the License Agreement* and deliver it to Central Classroom Building room 025 to obtain a license code.
