Virtual Advising

AOL Instant Messenger Logo

Undergraduate Student Services welcomes you to Virtual Advising! It is a service we are excited to offer exclusively to our Sociology and Criminology majors! Our screen name is SociolOSU so be sure to add us your buddy list. We hope to chat with you soon!

Please read the following paragraphs to better familiarize yourself with this service:

What is Virtual Advising?

Virtual Advising through the Sociology Department is the newest way that we are reaching out to connect with our students. We want to be as accessible to you as possible and we recognize that you have a lot going on and you don’t always have time to come and see us in Bricker Hall, so Virtual Advising is a way we are using technology to quickly answer your questions. Remember, Virtual Advising is a great compliment to individual appointments and walk-ins, but it is not intended to replace face-to-face advising. Don't be a stranger - we still want to see you.

What Kinds of Questions Can I Ask on Virtual Advising?

Virtual Advising is for brief questions that can be answered in one or two sentences. Remember that virtual advising is not set up on a secure site. Be careful NOT TO DIVULGE ANY PERSONAL INFORMATION.

Examples of good questions to ask on Virtual Advising:

  • When is the last day to drop a class without receiving a W?
  • Who is the instructor for Sociology 410 this quarter?
  • When are Walk In hours tomorrow?

Examples of things you want to avoid on Virtual Advising:

  • Hi, this is Brutus Buckeye. SSN 222-22-2222. Can you tell me what courses I need to finish my major?
  • This is Beth Buckeye. I got a D in Soc 594 and an E in Soc 488 last quarter. Can you give me permission to re-enroll in those two courses?
